How do I choose a tour?

In order to help us provide the best tour experience possible, it is important that you select a trip that is appropriate for your abilities, fitness level, and suits your expectations and interests.  We offer a wide variety of tours suited for recreation to advanced riders.  Every effort is made to match guests with similar riding abilities to facilitate a more enjoyable tour for all participants.  Detailed itineraries are available.  Tour accommodations are typically upscale lodges, resorts, ranches, and bed & breakfasts.  Most meals are included and range from local cafes and fine restaurants.  See tour itinerary for more details.  We also offer custom and elite tour packages.

Contact us and we will be happy to help you decide which tour is perfect for you based on the dates you want to travel and your interests.

What’s included?

Our mountain bike adventure tours include all lodging, many meals, ground transportation, supplements and drinks on the rides, and the support and camaraderie of experienced guides.  Depending on availability, many tours also include adventure activity fees such as whitewater rafting, kayaking, kitesurfing, or snowboarding, and spa treatment.  See specific tour itinerary for further details.

What isn’t included?

Airfare, lodging and meals before and after the trip, rental fees, some meals, alcoholic beverages, personal items purchased during the trip, and gratuities for your guides.

How do I make a reservation?

Select your tour and complete the Reservations Form. All tours require a 50% deposit to secure a reservation. Or, contact one of our tour coordinators by e-mail or telephone toll-free at 1-877-289-3772 to secure your reservation. One of our tour consultants will answer any questions you may have.  Shortly after booking your tour you will receive a Reservation Confirmation Packet which includes important information concerning your tour, tips regarding travel arrangements, and Release of Liability and Health forms.  Signed forms must be received prior to departure.  All guests must be 21 years or older.

What if I am traveling alone?

All tours prices are per person based on double occupancy.  Guests traveling alone have the option of sharing a room with another guest or paying a single supplement for a private room.  See specific tour for pricing.

Can I rent a bike?

Because we have found that most guests prefer to ride their own bikes, we do not provide rental bikes or equipment.  If you would like to rent a bike, let us know and we can assist by providing the contact information for a local bike shop that rents bikes.

How do I ship my bike and who is going to build it?

You or your local bike show will have to partially disassemble your bike and pack it in a shipping container.  Please ensure that you bike is properly tuned and maintained in advance or have it assembled and tuned through our affiliated bike shop at the tour location upon arrival. Shipping is available through UPS or the USPS.  Alternatively, most airlines allow you to travel with your bike for an additional fee, usually between $50 and $100.

What should I bring?

Each destination has unique and sometimes rapidly changing weather conditions.  Contact us for specific weather and seasonal information.  We do not provide bikes or other rental gear.  It is recommended that you fly with your bike or arrange to ship your bike to the location in advance.  Please allow sufficient time for shipping and assembly so that it is readyto ride when you arrive. Arrangements can be made to assemble your bike and repack and ship it at the end of the tour.  Guests are required to bring their own riding gear.  Supplements will be provided.

How large will the tour group be?

Most of our tours are limited to a maximum of eight guests and two or three guides.  We offer one of the best guide to guest ratios in the business.  For an even more personalized experience, contact us regarding custom and elite tour packages.

Will my tour itinerary change?

Due to a variety of factors, from time to time it is necessary to change previously determined trip itineraries to protect the comfort, convenience, and well-being of our adventure travelers.  These factors may include weather concerns and other unavoidable circumstances.  We reserve the right to make reasonable alterations in the itinerary where deemed advisable for the comfort and well-being of trip members.

What if the tour gets cancelled?

For The Ride reserves the right to cancel a tour if deemed necessary to protect our guests, ourselves, or for reasons beyond our control.  Situations arise occasionally, whether natural, manmade or otherwise, that are beyond our control and may force the cancellation of a tour. We also reserve the right to cancel any tour if sign-up is inadequate to make the trip economically feasible for us to operate. If this happens, we give a full refund of all payments received.  For The Ride is not responsible, however, for additional expenses you have incurred in preparing for the trip (such as non-refundable air tickets, visa fees, gear or medical expenses). It is recommended that guests purchase travel insurance.

What if the minimum number of guests don’t sign up?

Each tour requires a minimum number of participants for departure. Most of our tours are designed for small groups, so our minimums are small. Grab your friends and lets ride. For The Ride does reserve the right to cancel a trip where the minimum number of guests is not acheived. All efforts will be made to fulfill all scheduled trips. Contact is for specific tour information.

What about travel insurance?

All tour members should consider purchasing travel insurance.  In the event you have to cancel your plans due to illness or death, this insurance may cover nonrefundable deposits and airfare. We strongly recommend that you purchase appropriate travel insurance.

I have a medical condition, can I still come on a tour?

If you have any medical conditions, it's very important you let us know well before departure so that we can make extra arrangements if necessary. Trip leaders have the right to disqualify anyone at any time during the trip if they feel the trip member is mentally or physically incapable to continue and/or if a trip member's continued participation jeopardizes the group's or his/her own safety. Under these circumstances refunds are not given.

For The Ride is not a medical facility and therefore has no responsibility regarding medical advice, medications or inoculations that you or your doctor deem necessary for your safe participation.

Hospital facilities for serious problems may not be readily available, and evacuation can be prolonged, difficult and expensive depending on the tour location. For The Ride assumes no liability regarding the provision of medical care.  By signing the Liability Release and Assumption of Risk Agreement, you agree to pay for emergency evacuation and emergency medical care.

Our guides are CPR and First Aid certified and carry emergency and communications equipment.

Why should I choose For The Ride?

We’ll be honest, For The Ride probably isn’t for everyone.  Our tours are designed for active individuals with moderate to advanced fitness levels who are looking for a new challenge, new place to ride, and new adventure.  Although we would love to share our experiences with everyone, we do not cater to families, children, the elderly, or beginners.  If you haven’t ridden a bike in a very long time, our tours are probably not for you.  If you have some riding experience, are in reasonably good shape, and a good attitude, and love to ride and have new adventure experiences, welcome to For The Ride!

Our groups typically consist of riders from 25 - 55 years of age, depending on the trip. Some locations are mroe rugged and extreme and require more advanced riding skills. For non-riding guests, our guides are great at making recommendations and coordinating alternate activities.

We strive to provide a quality tour at a reasonable price.  We also aim to exceed our guests expectations.  In order to provide the best possible tour experience, we start by sticking to the locations we know, rather than trying to span the globe.  We carefully select accommodations, restaurants, rides, adventure experiences and trip extras are carefully selected.

Our groups are small and itineraries flexible.  You can participate as much or as little as you want and we will make every effort to accommodate additional requests, without compromising the service quality and needs of other guests.

Our guides are mature professionals experienced in leading groups and knowledgeable about the locations they visit.  Each of our guides was carefully selected based a variety of factors, including personality, attention to detail, travel and guiding experience, and riding experience.  Each guide is carefully trained to anticipate the needs of our guests, changing conditions, and to ensure the best possible travel experience for our guests.

Our goal is simple – to provide quality active adventure vacations and quality personal service.  From your first contact with us through the last day of your tour, you’ll be well taken care of.  We are happy to answer any questions you may have to help you chose the right tour and to get the most out of your adventure vacation.

What will a typical day be like?

We typically start our day with breakfast at 8 a.m., served at the inn, lodge, ranch or B&B where we are staying.  During breakfast, we will review the day’s route, activities and places of interest.  The guides will discuss optional side trips for those who wish to see more and will discuss optional routes for those wanting more or less challenge.

Rides typically start at 9:30.  Because we travel only in small groups, guests usually don’t have any problem staying together.  Each rider is, however, provided with a map and written instructions to follow so that they can set their own pace without concern that they are holding the others up.

Lunch varies from local deli’s to extravagant spreads at a scenic location along the ride.  Lunch is a great time for socializing, resting, regrouping, and taking in a tasty and healthy meal.

Guests usually participate in one of the optional preplanned afternoon adventure activities.  Our guides do more than ride and are eager to help you step outside your comfort zone and conquer a new challenge.  Depending on location, we often engage in whitewater rafting, kayaking, horseback riding, kitesurfing, snorkeling, and sightseeing - whatever the local area has available.

Guests arrive back to our lodging mid afternoon where they can relax and refresh before dinner.

Scheduled dinners are usually set for 7pm at our lodge, bed & breakfast, favorite restaurants or local eateries.  Not all meals are included but recommendations are always provided. This allows guests to explore dining options with their traveling companion or together with new found friends.

Evenings are spent conversation with new friends, watch the sunset, enjoy an evening walk or retire early to your room.  Evenings are a great time to get to know your guides, fellow travelers, and to recap the day’s events.

Hey, what about protecting the environment?

Our guides are very sensitive to our fragile environment and take appropriate precautions to preserve it for the future generations, both human and animal.  Although we strive to take our guests off the beaten path, we seek to leave the terrain we cross unspoiled and undamaged.  Our groups are small and have minimal impact on the environment they encounter.  Many of our guides are active environmentalists passionate about preservation and sustainability.
