Copper Canyon, Mexico – in a remote corner of Northern Mexico in the Sierra Madre mountains lies Copper Canyon, - one of the longest and deepest canyon systems in the world, four times larger than the Grand Canyon. This rugged terrain is remote, challenging, and an exhilarating and fascinating place to go For The Ride. The Copper Canyon area spans 25,000 square miles with diverse climates and unique rock formations, and is home to the Tarahumara Indians – indigenous people who have been walking the countryside and canyons for centuries, and to whom we owe thanks for creating a seemingly endless network of trails.

Guests will be met at the Los Mochis, Mexico airport by a member of the For The Ride team the afternoon prior to the official start of the tour. Some guests may opt to travel to and meet a guide in El Paso, Texas. A For The Ride member can assist you in making travel arrangements.
We stay at the Hotel Santa Anita – a landmark hotel in the city with continental and fine dining, live music and nightly entertainment to ensure a festive start to our adventures. During dinner we will discuss the coming events, prior to enjoying a relaxing evening of entertainment and exploring this coastal city.
Day One
Our trip begins in the morning as we meet for our trip to Creel, the "Gateway to the Copper Canyon," via the Chihuahua-Pacific Railroad - an engineering marvel which took 100 years to build and now provides access to this once impossibly remote area. The "Chepe," as the railway is affectionately known, takes travelers from sea level to 8,000 feet through five climates, 86 tunnels, 37 bridges and some of the world's most spectacular scenery.
Creel is an old logging town high in the pine forests on the northern end of the canyon which boasts endless trails and roads weaving through the countryside and forests. During our journey to Creel, guests begin to marvel at the beauty and size of the Copper Canyon region. Arriving in the afternoon, we check in for two nights at The Lodge - a log cabin style hotel with large rooms, a nice restaurant and bar area, and a great place to relax and act as home base.
Day Two
After a hearty breakfast at the Lodge, we head out for a ride through the open countryside and pine forest, along dirt roads and walking trails where you'll see first hand the traditional lives of the people who inhabit the area.
Our ride takes us through the Valley of the Frogs and Mushrooms, the Valley of the Monks, and a visit to Mission de San Ignacio, Arakeko Lake (no fishing license required!), and see the Rio Conchos. (15 – 20 miles).
Guests have the option of dining at The Lodge, or if you are feeling adventurous, we can go out on the town and back roads for a dining experience you won't soon forget.
Day Three
Today is our third and final day in Creel. After breakfast, we group up for one of several ride options which further explore the area around Creel. From visiting the Cusarare or Rukiraso waterfalls, the Recowata Hot Springs, or racing through the rolling hills on winding singletrack, you're certain to find just what you came for. Optional activities for the day include horseback riding and hiking.
On our final night in Creel, we meet before dinner to discuss the journey that awaits the following morning. Dinner can be done as a group or guests may choose to explore town on their own.
Day Four
After breakfast we load up for our trip down to Batopilas, a small tranquil village along the river on the floor of the Canyon. From a starting elevation of 8,400 feet, we will descend 45 miles to the Batopilas River. This place is remote by any standard.
But don't worry, you wont be stuck in the van. After a short drive, the daring will descend on their mountain bikes! This highspeed challenge is a great chance to test yourself and your concentration as you make your way down - just remember, if you want to look at the scenery or take some pictures - You had better STOP! You'll want to make it to Batopilas in one piece. Tales of great triumph and downhill riding are sure to be shared over dinner and (of course) cervezas.
Day Five
After breakfast, our morning out and back ride parallels the river to the Lost Cathedral of Satevo. (8 miles - with longer options). Along the way, we traverse along the ride, passing through local pastures and farm lands before arring at Satevo. Unique rock formations and technical singletrack options keep the ride interesting for those who want a challenge.
The afternoon can be filled with additional riding, exploring the area and town, or a relaxing siesta before dinner.
Day Six
After breakfast, we ride north up the river exploring single track trails and roads that lead to Cerro Colorado. Those who want a real challenge can opt to climb up and back out of this spectacular canyon.
Tonight we return to Creel, checking into Sierra Hotel. Guests can spend the afternoon riding, exploring caves or singletrack in the high country overlooking the Creel Valley – one of our favorite rides on the trip. (20-30 miles).
Another festive and relaxing evening will be spent recounting the week’s events over great food.
Day Seven
After a final group breakfast, guests are transferred back to the Chihuahua-Pacific Railroad to catch their flights from either Chihuahua or Los Mochis.
