Moab, Utah - Women Only!

2009 Sample Itinerary

Moab TrailsArriving

Moab, Utah is off the beaten path and, not entirely easy to get to. Those from surrounding states may wish drive themselves, others will want to fly into Grand Junction, Colorado where a member of the For The Ride team will greet you and take you by shuttle van to our chosen accommodations.

Most guests will arrive in the afternoon affording time to get acquainted and enjoy a relaxing meal before many will retire early in anticipation of the adventures to come.

This year we return to one of our favorite spa resorts which consists of small and medium sized cabins and offers a wide range of amenities.   All cabins have a full kitchen but don’t worry, you won’t be required to cook.   All meals are provided either at the resort or local restaurant. Bag lunches may be used on some day trips.

Did someone mention that we are staying at a spa?  There is nothing better than a spa treatment after a day on the bike.   We get you started, the first $100 of bodywork on us!  Choose from a Citrus Body Polish, European Facial, Therapeutic Massage, Hawaiian Lomi Lomi, Outdoor Massage, or double up on the Back, Neck, Shoulder or Regenerating Leg Treatment.   This is a week of fun, play, and indulgence!

Day One

After breakfast, we head out to Klondike Bluffs, the first ride of the trip and a great warmup!   This track winds through the area desert landscape, including sections of sagebrush and slick rock, past dinosaur tracks and stone pillars (known as the Marching Men).   The trail’s end has a short hike for spectacular views into Arches National Park. (16 miles)

For those wanting more riding, after an early dinner we go out for the ride again, but this time with lights.   The Moab sunset is truly spectacular!   Having ridden the route earlier in the day, riders can confidently traverse the trails, illuminated only by the moon and with the assistance of lighting systems.  This is a great opportunity to experience night riding.   Don’t worry, if you don’t have lights we will provide them.

Day Two

After a hearty breakfast, we head out for a day playing on the world famous Slickrock trails.  This is great way to get warmed up and try your skills on the unique surface of these rock formations – a twelve mile loop of uninterrupted sticky sandstone waves for your fat tires!   Although twelve miles doesn’t seem long it can be a 3 to 4 hour ride.   The unique sandstone surface is a proving ground for many bike manufacturers because it allows a mountain bike to be ridden to its fullest expression.   The superior traction between the sandstone and tires can hold a bike at gravity-defying angles!

Because this can be intimidating at first, a safety briefing, riding tips, and warm-up session will be provided.  Once mastered, the free-flowing nature of Slickrock will have you hooked!  Some say it is the most fun you can have on a bike!

Close enough to our accommodations and always a group favorite; Slickrock is often revisited again later in the trip.

Riding in Moab Utah

Day Three

Today we break from the bikes and get up early for a day of whitewater rafting on the Colorado River!  We will travel to our launch point 23 miles upriver from Moab.   Upon arrival, safety procedures will be reviewed and you will be taught the rafting skills you will need to successfully ride these Class II/III rapids.

Once prepared, it’s time to grab your paddle and hit the water! You’ll take in the majestic view of Fisher Towers before you begin to hear the unmistakable sound of WHITEWATER AHEAD!   We will raft through junctions with Onion Creek, Professor Creek, Cloudburst and Ida before enjoying lunch riverside.

After a delicious lunch, we complete our river adventure with a run of Whites Rapid, our last thrill before things settle down and take in the breathtaking canyon scenery.

Day Four

Following breakfast, we hit the trail this time riding Porcupine Rim – considered by locals to be the best ride in Moab.   The trail traverses high above the Colorado River. Porcupine Rim is arguably the most diverse of all local Moab rides and definitely one of the most memorable.

Aerobically this ride is moderately difficult, with an initial 800-foot elevation gain but riders are rewarded with dynamic views of the La Sal Mountains and Castle Rock followed by miles and miles of downhill fun!  The trails consist of rugged double-track and single-track - sometimes smooth and other times sandy or boulder-strewn. Estimated distance is 34 miles / 4-5 hours.

Day Five

Some guests will depart early to catch return flights out of Grand Junction, Colorado.   Those from surrounding states are welcome to catch one last ride before exiting this mountain bike paradise!
